sand blasted body 01

Here I've preped the jeep for sand blasting out in my driveway. For this conversion, I did not feel like I need to remove the body. Most of the rust I found was only light surface rust, so cleaning it to prepare it for painting was easy.

sand blasted body 02

I was pleased that the floors were not rusted through and even the hatchannels and toolbox were sound and solid. You can see some of the Air Force blue paint under the pale blue paint in this photo.

primed body 01

It's amazing what a coat of primer will do to make a derelict jeep look nice. I primed everything because I had a mix of original paint, Air Force paint, new paint, and bare steel.

primed wheels 01

The wheels really needed cleaning and painting. If you look very closely, you may note that these are CJ rims, not true M38 rims. After I paint them green, most people will never know the difference. I had to rebuild the hole for the value stems in two of these because they had rusted to almost paper thinness. I welded in fresh steel on the inside of the rims and then redrilled the holes to make sure they were round.
